For the Fall 2015 semester I began an internship at Cecil College’s marketing department under Laurie Lopez, where I was tasked with creating both print and digital media for a number of college events. The work done was mainly using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I had hoped to work with the college’s web developer, since my major is Web Design. Unfortunately they didn’t start working on the blog until the end of the semester so I didn’t get the chance.
Since each college event was different there is no singular theme to my portfolio, unless you count “college events” as a theme. This collection of designs made over the course of the semester is a good sample of my possible range, but certainly doesn’t show everything I am capable of. My position as an intern was to configure various layouts, styles, and themes that were customized to fit the need of the individual client, so that their events were advertised and presented so they would appeal to the largest audience possible. For the majority of my designs I made at least three different sizes, some up to six. I generally kept my designs simple, as I feel it’s better to say more with less, and I tried to be somewhat subtle with some of the design elements, such as the keyboard letters in my Virtual Career Fair flyer and the “rock and roll” ornaments on the Christmas Concert flyer.

My first project. The background is to simulate a cork board.

The image on the left was made with faulty information. The one on the right was made after the client sent the correct information.

The third design made for the adult education program.

The Led Zeppelin concert, 11×17, 8.5×11, and half sheet flyers.

The Led Zeppelin concert, digital and banner versions.

The Renaissance poster. Had to add the Student Life logo as an afterthought.

The digital copy for the Renaissance faire with a parchment colored background.

The STEM presentation flyer, in both my preferred black background and the client’s preferred green.

Several different study tips in two of the three formats made.

My preferred image for the Fall Transfer Day, not selected because in design we are supposed to group like things, and the viewer’s eyes would have no where to rest.

The poster, flyers, and social media square for the Virtual Career Fair.

The Led Zeppelin guy wanted all the size options for a Christmas Concert, based on a picture he’d seen. Here is the digital media.

Here is the print media.

The red flyer was a first draft. After that I was told I could use a real image from the movie. Much better!
